Atlas Mallows - Pink Shrimp

A jar of scented marshmallows, and the reason they've been in tackle boxes for fifty years is buoyancy. Thread one up the shank of a single hook and your bait rides up off the bottom, out of the silt and the weeds, into water a cruising trout is actually looking at. Pink does double duty — it reads as an egg from a distance and it holds color in stained water — and the shrimp scent gives a fish a reason to hold on once it's found the thing.

This is also the release-friendly answer to floating dough. A marshmallow and a pinch of nightcrawler on a size 2 baitholder puts a single hook in the corner of the jaw instead of a treble down the throat, so you can let a fish go and expect it to swim off. Fish it above an egg sinker on a fluorocarbon leader — the longer the leader, the higher it rides. 1.5 oz jar.
