Tiger Muskie
Tiger muskie are a sterile hybrid of true muskellunge and northern pike, stocked deliberately by Utah's Division of Wildlife Resources as a management tool to control overpopulated forage fish in specific reservoirs. They grow into large, toothy predators that require heavy tackle, wire leaders, and careful handling — Utah requires anglers to keep muskie out of the water for no more than 30 seconds during release. This is a low-numbers, high-reward species: expect long stretches between bites, and be ready when one finally follows your lure to the boat.
