Catfish Slip Sinker Cut Bait Rig

The slip sinker cut bait rig has been our most consistent, reliable setup for channel catfish at Utah Lake. After 15 years of fishing this lake, it's never let us down.

White bass is by far the most effective cut bait we've found. We recommend sizing up — a larger circle hook and a bigger chunk of cut bait than most anglers expect. This is intentional: we've never lost a fish to a hook this size, and the larger bait also helps keep bullhead catfish off your line.

White bass are also pretty easy to catch yourself — check out our White Bass page for tips on landing your own. If you'd rather skip that step, raw shrimp, chicken hearts and gizzards, and chicken liver are all solid alternative baits for this rig.
